Is it because Republican policies promote aristocracy (survival of the already richest) instead of meritocracy (wealth based on an actual achievement not inherited wealth)? Growth based on increasing the size of the middle class (through investments in education and job training) works better than giving a bunch of millionaires tax cuts and hoping it trickles down to the rest of us. http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=9218 ""Barack Obama's policy would impose a 60-percent increase in lifetime Social Security payroll taxes for some young voters. College-educated workers would lose the most under his plan, since their future earnings are likely to remain above Social Security's maximum taxable limit for most of their careers. A study by the National Bureau of Economic Research shows that under Social Security's current rules, young college graduates will contribute about 5 percent of their lifetime earnings. Under Obama's proposal, that number would rise to almost 9 percent, taking these individuals' overall lifetime tax rate from 45 percent to 49 percent. By voting for Obama, a 22-year-old young college graduate earning $40,000 per year today would be opting to surrender an additional 4 percent of his lifetime earnings to the Social Security administration ? and may get no benefits in return. Put another way, Obama is proposing to significantly reduce the economic value of the college degrees his young supporters are struggling to attain and pay for. He is also reducing the incentives of his young supporters to stay in school even after graduating from college. By proposing higher payroll taxes, Obama proposes reducing or eliminating the value of those additional years of education.'''

He says the Holocaust never happened....if you have an asthma inhaler you might want to get it out now! Apparently his third grade level of education didn't include world history and if it did, he'd flunk it severely! Ok if it didn't happen, how would you explain the thousands of pictures taken of survivors in the camps, hours and hours of film footage, witness accounts by American, Britain, and German soliders, and the survivors themselves who still have numbers tattooed on their forearms!

how can i change this so it's not biased? Another group of people that can easily transfer the virus are homosexuals. This is a very controversial subject in America and overseas because of culture and religion also a lake of education.53% of homosexual males and 24% of homosexual women often inject them selves with drugs or share needles. The drug usage among homosexuals increases every year. Some men say they use drugs because it makes them feel good, but what they don?t know is they are putting themselves at great risk. Cross contamination could occur when sharing needles or drugs with a partner that could be infected with the virus already.

I have a 12 year old daughter in her first year of upper school(comprehensive). She's been issued with a planner( a book in which to write notes to ones self to remind them of homework, projects due in etc) I recently recieved my daughters termly school report which had issues with her homework or lack of it,it got me thinking...these planners are costly and obviously don't work.I regularly sign my daughters and often it's blank for days on end thus looking like my child has no homework.Does anyone think a better idea would be a website where parents who care about their childs education could look to see if teachers had left homework I.e brief note, lesson, information such as project to be completed and returned and a said date. Most upper schools are email linked anyway allowing teachers, heads of house, tutors to communicate during the day...good idea or can you see any flaws? And the need for that remark was....attention seeking is so unbecoming of a person.I didn't ask for your parenting tips,I wanted an answer to the question at hand thanks ;-) I should add I ALWAYS attend parents evenings and check up on my child. The problem seems to be that homework is often given at the end of class, now this is the teachers responsibility to ensure children don't leave the class without having written it down but after speaking to teachers it's often not implimented by the teachers own admission!!! Mrs Dean your last comment about emailing is exactly what my idea was.Teachers don't tend to give out their personal email to parents but should their be a website set up for each school a teacher from a certain lesson could post a quick update of whats expected for homework, they spend time planning lessons and must have some idea of what homeworks going to be required? Thank you for your reply,it's made me realise that this idea could be time cosuming with already stretched staff :-)

  23. Resolved Question: Do you view being religious as a character flaw?
  24. 10 Jun 2008 at 9:55am
I hate to say it, but really I do. And I'm really not trying to be outright offensive here, but given the way that Christians live, talk, act, vote, legislate....I just can't see it as anything positive. I can't understand how we've come to give the whole, "culture of willfull ignorance" and the demonization of education a positive spin. In certain circles, being religious (and again, I'm speaking more about the fanatical, dangerous religions such as Chrisitanity and Islam...it's not like I have a problem with Taoism or Hinduism or anything) would be akin to seeming mentally insane/unstable (belief in an all-powerful invisible master, slaying spirits, hearing voices, etc). In addition to this, more people have been killed in the name of Jesus Christ than any other historical figure...ever.... I don't know...whenever someone tells me that they are intensely religious, I think I can safely assume that they've probably got nothing to offer. Why should I think otherwise? What say u? What I said about "more people being killed in Jesus' name than any other historical figure" I've seen in a couple different books, some of them were history textbooks. It's also referenced in the book, "God is not Great" and (yeah, I know, but it still cited a source for this...) "America: The Book". I've seen this in print a bunch of different time throughout my life, I just can't remember the sources for them all. by the way, I am really appreciating all of the level-headed answers I'm getting...this is shocking! Usually when I ask less offensive questions than this I get more ridiculous answers... ...freakishly, there are a bunch of people on Y!A today that are capable of explaing themselves well...awesome ;)

Many people(esspecially in US) say teachers are stupid, parents are stupid, government are stupid and not enough money for the school. But deep within me i think the real main cause is the attitude of a bunch of stupid school students that started all these nonsense. They skipped school, they smoke weeds and cigarettes, they drink booze, they won't do their homework, they're bullying other students for nothing, they loot, they steal. When this is happening, who's to blame?Parents?Teachers?State Gov?NO!!!..The students themselves are the main culprit of all these nonsense.I'm not an American citizen so I'm quite baffled with this scenario. Why parents, teachers and state officials kept blaming eachother for a mistake that they did'nt do?Why don't they put a full focus of the level of diciplines among the school students? Are they affraid of the students? Are they affraid that the so-called "The American Way" might died out if student's dicipline were the main focus here?

Is it true people are not allowed to be millionaires because everyone deserves to have the same standards of living, and there are not any homeless people, and education is free? You can go to medical school and become a doctor for free?Is it possible the U.S. is afraid their way works, and works well? Stools, A question is not stupid IF you are not educated on the subject. If you are not STUPID as I am, back up your comment with a logical answer.....sloppy stools. Exactly why is my ignorance sickening? This is a place to ask questions correct? I watched a documentary and became curious.

That's the company's tag line. And they deliver. LOVETHELAB?************ I'm a BD flow lover, a confirmed Mac user (I tell everyone "I don't do Windows"). So why am I touting a machine made by Amnis that requires Windows? Because this instrument goes above and beyond mere flow cytometry- it shows you every event (that's cell to non-flow users) in detail. I used it and I am sold. It takes a single experiment now to do intracellular localization, in place of two. A simpler caspase activation assay. What's not to love? Even the computer quandary is solvable (the one feature I'd change: I'd have it run off a Mac) - with an Intel Mac; just get Parallels software, install Windows, and you are good to go, or rather, run. And the ImageStream can run off an Intel Mac this way too. I bought an Intel iMac just for analysis. Installation of Parallels was easy, IDEAS is about as intuitional as any flow software package. And Amnnis reps bend over to be helpful. Don't let the price tag scare you; rather, help write a shared- instrument grant (we did) for your institution to get one. It is simply amazing. The Mac version for the moment is quite better. lovesthelab Senior Member United States 807 Posts Posted - July 06 2006 : 4:59:46 PM --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm not a PC person, but am an ardent flow person. My flow friends with PCs swear by WinMidi, which is free. If you Google for free flow cytometry software, you'll come to 2 sites, one at UMass, one at Scripps. Lots of free analysis software for the PC, maybe because BD relied on Macs for so long. mlinde Member United States 11 Posts Posted - August 02 2006 : 5:44:55 PM --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As an update, I tried trial versions of FCSexpress and FlowJo and wasn't really happy with either of them compared to Cell Quest. I found FCSexpress almost impossible to work with. FlowJo was alright, but I don't think I had the time to really get the software down. Anyone know if BD ever plans to put out CellQuest on PC? lovesthelab Senior Member United States 807 Posts Posted - August 09 2006 : 1:22:04 PM --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- quote: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As an update, I tried trial versions of FCSexpress and FlowJo and wasn't really happy with either of them compared to Cell Quest. Mlinde, have you ever tried WinList or WinMidi? Both of those were written for PCs. Also WEASEL comes in PC and Mac versions. Did you read the flow perspectives? There is a software discussion there. The most comprehensive flow cytometry and analytical cytology website I have found. You will find resources ranging from archived protocols to request forms for the latest protocols CD-ROMs - and they are free while supplies last. Job listings, meetings, journals, latest developments- it is all here. Lectures Website Dr. J. Paul Robinson, Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, has put a compilation of lec-ture slides on a website. Some of the information is bullet statements, but the pictures are great. If you've never seen a flow cytometer, you'll see lots of them here. If you are new to flow, you'll find in-troductory slides here. Practical Flow Cytometry, Fourth Edition by Howard Shapiro, published by J. Wiley & Sons, 2003. Website Dr. Shapiro has kindly put his textbook online through Molecular Probes. It is free! Yes, you do need to register to see it, but that's all you need to do, and you have access forever. Flow Cytometry E-mail Discussion Group Website Have a question? Novices to experts, all levels of questions are welcome. This e-mail group has been invaluable to me. E-mails are archived and can be searched by topic. International Society for Analytical Cytology Website The premier society for flow cytometry, it publishes Cytometry Parts A and B (Clinical Cytometry), Case Studies in Clinical Flow Cytometry, and Current Protocols in Cytometry. These are available on-line, but you must be subscribed for access. Regular dues are US $126; fees are deeply dis-counted for students, post-doctoral fellows, and scientists from developing nations. Please consider joining. National Flow Cytometry Resource, Los Alamos National Laboratories Website Where the cutting edge happens. NFCR runs a course every June that alternates between Los Ala-mos and New England. I recommend it to the serious flow person; you will learn a tremendous amount, including how to build your own flow cytometer, if you are so inclined. FlowCyte Website This discussion group is dedicated to flow users interested in developing uniform bioinformatics standards. They are also developing analysis and statistics software for flow users. I wonder what makes spike lee so sure that he had to ask for a liberal right of placing blacks in a movie raising a flag during war, where there weren't any in real life. It seems his lack of education of history makes him look rather dull. He never has touted the extraordinary achievements of George Washington-Carver, one of the most intelligent black men in (and of most men overall),, in all of history.

I live in the Wiltshire area and am looking to buy my first car. I am in full time education and have a job (only a weekend one) but as i have yet to complete my driving test, i don't want to spend loads of money on a car. Plus i'm not allowed to spend my bank savings so i only have 300 pounds maximum to spend. I would like something small and easy to park etc. i know that it is not alot of money but any sugestions would be gratefully received!

  69. Resolved Question: Confused for second child!?
  70. 10 Jun 2008 at 6:47am
My husband and me both were discussing yesterday about having second child in future or not! One mind says that -one is sufficient because we can give him the best of education, best of standard of living etc. And also i am stay at home mom now ....my baby is just one month old. But when he will become one year old , i will again start working. I was just wondering that if i plan for another baby after a year or two , it means again i will have to leave the job for two years ,because i want to give the best care to my child ,even when i become pregnant.(which is not possible if i work). Another mind says that if my son will not have any sibbling ,he will feel quite alone when he will grow up and also he will become stubborn and will never learn to share his things with others! Please help me to decide!

I worked in the country of Suriname for 6 months, and loved the fact that no-one knew where I was. I guess it depends on your level of education, but I didn't know where it was (its at the top of South America) Amazing place! I've travelled alot, but Suriname TOTALLY stole my heart! I LOVE SURINAME! I'm looking for suggestions of recomended mainland countries that I've never heard of. I know there are heaps of islands but they are, as a general rule, harder to get to. And if I looked for countries in an atlas it would remove the 'where the hell?' feeling. Places on EARTH! That currently exist! As of the 10 June 08!

  74. 10 Jun 2008 at 6:30am
Hi I am planning on doing distance education. I really wanted to do just home schooling but my mum said no so this is a compromise. I was wondering if you could live in one state (NSW) and do distance education based in another state(QLD) Thanks! Hi thanks for your great answer! It is a private distance ed so the government wont be a problem. The reason I chose QLD was because I could only find a good private distance ed provider their. DO you know of any in NSW that aren't funded by the government. :)

  79. Resolved Question: Extracurricular activities?
  80. 10 Jun 2008 at 6:18am
I am a High School Junior from India. My school follows the British system of education ( "O" and "A" levels). I intend to get into a very good university abroad. For this I would obviously need to work hard to get good "A" level grades and SAT scores, but what I am worried about is the extracurricular activities. I am a Karate purple stripe belt and I do a bit of freelance journalism. What other activities can I get involved in? I am not very interested in music or theatre. Any other tips or suggestions?

  81. Resolved Question: Why join the navy if you can be a pirate?
  82. 10 Jun 2008 at 6:14am
This is multi-billionaire Apple company-founder Steve Jobs' quote. http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/s/steve_jobs.html If I had learned education, I would not have had time to learn anything else. --Cornelius Vanderbilt (10th richest person in History!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornelius_Vanderbilt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_wealthy_historical_figures Thus, why is it really considered unethical to be ruthless & greedy? I mean, the people who were so became the richest ever (including Bill Gates) & wrote their names in Golden Words in History! Apple stole GUI idea from Xerox and Bill Gates stole it from Apple. And, he remained world's richest for 13 years consecutively! Seriously, why join the navy if you can be a pirate? What benefit do we get by remaining good when all the people whom we consider dishonest & crooks are ruling the world, including most businessmen and politicians? If God is there, why hasn't He punished them? Is there no God? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirates_of_silicon_valley "The railroads are not run for the benefit of the 'dear public' -- that cry is all nonsense -- they are built by men who invest their money and expect to get a fair percentage on the same." "The public be damned!... I don't take any stock in this silly nonsense about working for anybody but our own." --William Henry Vanderbilt (4th richest person ever born!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Henry_Vanderbilt If they're not working for the good of the society, why do we keep on working for them? If you start seeing clearly, the rest whatever small charity they do is only for propaganda & controlling the public.

I have a BA in English and a NYS certification in Adolescent Education, but I need to get a Masters degree in order to get my permanent teaching certification in New York State. I have always loved philosophy, but am worried that I am not prepared; that a Masters program will be too specific for my broad interests. Are there Masters programs in philosophy that will give me a broad view of the evolution of philosophy? Or can I only find that in undergrad? If there is a program like this, what schools would you recommend?

I know I am doing it for my self esteem. IS that a legitimate reason? Its costing $23000!!!! Which I suppose most people would hope to gain financially from their education in the future. I havent worked for a boss for years, I started a business myself when I had my daughter 2 years ago and thats the way I like it, no boss!! Doesnt feel like a job when there is no boss, still stressful but I am doing it because I want to. So what do you think, continue with the business degree or forget about it?
